Macromedia Studio MX registration issue

Hi Guys,

 

Does anyone have any ideas for this little problem,

 

Our main IT Suites all have Macromedia Studio MX 2004 is installed. As part of the image MM studio is also registered and activiated using our site licence.

 

The problem comes when a student logs in it asks them for the serial nmber of the product.

 

Does any one have any ideas on how to make registration machine based rather than user based,

The way i do it is to put the serial number in the registry under the Flash section then run flash and it works fine.

You cannot repackage it but you can create silent installers and use the windows installer wrapper wizard.

after unzipping the zip file to get the exe and create an msi ( Pretty sure thats what ChrisH just said )

No I just use the MSI as a wrapper. All attempts at making a native MSI in the past have ended up with problems. This is from several people as well.

I have a flash tutorial I made showing how to extract dreamweaver and create a silent installer but the link on here is to my old web space so I will dig it out tonight if anyone is interested.

The wrapper is the easy bit, its just a program with a few screens. For it to work the setup you point is at must support a silent installation eg setup /s etc.

All the Studio MX files are Install shield files. These files do not allow you to just use the /s switch. You first need to run the installation with the record option to produce an answer file accoring to the options you select. You then put this file at the same location as the setup file and you can use the /s option.

I then put these into a modified 7 zip self extracting that kicks of the installation.

You can ommit this step when using the wrapper wizard. Somebody did post a program that lets you create a silent installer this way but last time I tried it I dint have much luck and did it manually.

I have solved this problem in this way:

 

Build your PC and add the studio/MX install, once you have it installed add the licence key and activate/register in the normal way.

 

No close studio/MX and got to c:\documents & settings\your profile\application data\ and copy the macromedia folder to c:\documents and settings\ ALL USERS\application data\.

 

A macromedia folder will already resisde here so just over right it, I also copy the folder centrally so it can be used on any PC that may not be part of an image i.e. has been installed manually.

 

When you start studio/mx you will no longer be naggedd to register or add any keys.

I added it in as part of your image, but it looks like it has failed for some reason! nevermind, back to the drawing board!

I followed your instruction above, but it doesn't work for me.

 

After I have sysprep'ed and imaged across to another machine, it has reverted to the same old 'Your trial period has now ended' message on the new machine.
