EEE PCs - anyone got feedback

Has anyone any feedback, especially from a Primary School environment, to offer on EEE PCs yet please:eek:

Not from school, but on the strength of seeing and playing at BETT I bought one for myself.

 

I ended up with the 2Gb Surf one (too impatient to wait for other stock!!) and I'm pleased. It's pretty nippy, does most of what you need. I work in Primary and I could see it being ideal for my schools. It comes pre-loaded with OpenOffice, Firefox etc. and even has couple of games and educational programs.

 

And they are super-cool!

Agree with the above, they are super for someone who knows what they want. I could see them being ok for use with our upper years 6, possibly 5, but due to the unfamiliar interface I'm pretty sure most will struggle to use them to begin with. Not to mention the staff :|

Well, I've had mine since the start of last week and my daughter has gone and laid claim to it! I didn't even get to stuff ubuntu on it! Very nice bit of kit though.

I'm currently struggling to install XP on it onto an SD card, without mucking up the standard OS...

Why ruin something perfectly good by installing an inferior OS? Once you get the antivirus and antispyware software on it will just run slow. I also read that XP writes to disk more than Linux thus shortening the life of the solid-state disk and/or flash memory.

Anyone know what the project lifespan on the disk is? Does the warranty cover it?
