Student User Area Encryption Removal

Hello,

 

As of the last couple of weeks my boss (network administrator) has left our school and I have been given a shot at the job. I have been deputy network manager over the last year but now I have to prove to people that I can do the job.

 

Everything has gone fine except this one issue where students have been able to encrypt their files in their user areas. These files now appear green. One of the students has deleted his work so i tried to get a back from shadow copies but it said that I do not have permission to access or decrypt these files.... Is there an easy way to remove the encryption on these files?

 

The shadow copies and cobian backup jobs on the userarea are also encrypted.

 

I have tried taking ownership of the whole students userarea but there is still no luck. When i go to untick on the encrypt contents to secure data a message box pops up to say i need admin privileges (i am logged on with domain admins access) I click ok and then it says Access Denied.

 

Is there a central store of the encryption keys for each of my students that i can use to recover his data and is there a way of turing this off using GPO?

Have you tried logging on the file server as the local administrator? In the past I've found that every once in a while a file would be completely undeletable by any form of administrator, however you could delete it as the local administrator on the server itself.

You could try restoring the show copy whilst logged into the students account.
