tosca925 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I have took delivery of a new laptop last week, it had installed on it Office 2003 Standard Edition. I removed it through Add/remove programs and install Office 2003 Pro. It worked fine now for a few days but now i get the following message. This modification is not allowed because the document is locked†error message when you modify a document in Word 2003 It also happened in Outlook and Excel, I have tried the suggestions on the MS kB knowledge base to no avail. I even uninstalled it and re-installed, also deleted the users profile and let it recreate and made no difference. Any ideas?
mac_shinobi Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Any chance you can post back with the ms knowledge articles you have tried so we can see what you have tried so that we are not repeating things that you have tried.

ChrisH Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I had a problem similar to this with an access file the other day but didnt get round to looking into it. Basically the teacher had created an access database and told them all to copy it into their folders to avoid the usual read only blah blah. Problem was none of them could open their local copy as it said it was in use!!
mac_shinobi Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Try this : Open a blank document. Hit Insert-File and choose the file that has the protection issue. When you do this, document protection is lost. If it doesn't work for some reason, please let us know if there's any VBA code in the file.
Ric_ Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 If the teacher created the file - did the file keep it's origional permissions that prevented kiddy access?
