russdev Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/_doc/12318/BSF%20Final%20Report%20December.pdf Many schools already had good ICT facilities and pupils generally found ICT helpful to their progress before BSF projects were implemented. Although part of BSF's mission is "to help all children achieve their full potential by supporting every school in England to become a centre of excellence in the use of ICT for teaching and learning and for whole-school development", these findings may make it hard to demonstrate impact of ICT on educational outcomes through BSF. Perhaps these figures will change as other schools with less effective ICT resources come into the BSF programme. Not read it all yet. Russ 1
webman Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Interesting However, a number of concerns with BSF were noted. These related to ICT managed services becoming more centralised, which may result in the loss of valued ICT staff. However, there will also be benefits associated with centralisation: “We think we will lose our ICT manager in the next few weeks…soon we will not have him in school and we can’t reappoint him... I think that the managed service has the potential to deliver even better results because teachers will have access to someone who is working with a group of schools to bring the best solution…”(Headteacher) I don't suppose he knows how bad managed services are - how much more they will cost, how things could take longer, how little control the school has....
broc Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 He's obviously spent too much time listening to Partnership for Schools....... Just wait until there's nobody onsite when he wants something sorting.....
Face-Man Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Or there is something required outside the specification of the contract and it going to cost and arm and a couple of legs . I once heard of a school who was PFI and wanted £700 to put in one extra network point !! the Network Manager put in wireless instead .... 1
john Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 When were not there to pickup the bits when they drop them, set the projector up 10 minutes ago and do everything we do to make the kids and school look good they will realise how big the mistake was to get shut of us for BSF.
