Pycharm Edu v2 deployment hangs

Has anyone got this working via SCCM yet? Looking at it, it should work as a standard NSIS package (installername.exe /S) but it's hanging on what looks like an elevation dialogue (doesn't error out, just sits there until the process is killed).

 

Pushed out via psexec, (

psexec \\computername -s "\\server\share\folder\installername.exe" /S

) I see the same behaviour.

 

If the silent install is launched manually from an already-elevated command prompt it works.

 

Looking on the Jetbrains KB I've seen a couple of threads with the same issue, but no response.

 

I'm leaning towards "terrible installer that I'll need to edit", but just wondered if anyone else has had and fixed this?

Same issue here, i contacted them asking about network deployment and got this reply:

 

There is no msi packages. There is an option for silent installation http://devnet.jetbrains.com/docs/DOC-242 which can be used.

License is stored in the config directory which is different for every user: http://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/entries/23358108 .

You may need to use the license server or change the config directory configuration so that it's the same for all the users: http://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/entries/23348963 .

Just a note about this (manually deployed the last lot and bundled it with an image).

 

Assuming you're using a proxy (I'm giving the devs the benefit of the doubt and assuming that without a proxy it would work).

 

From an elevated local prompt, Installername.exe /S will result in a "python.txt is invalid. Python will not be downloaded" prompt. It will then install cleanly.

it appears that if it can't download and then read $TEMP\python.txt it breaks the "silent" nature of the installer to tell you, causing unattended installs to hang.

 

In an ideal world, it would check for a python version locally (where python), check whether Pycharm works with it and just silently install or sling an error in the application log.

Thinking about it, set a pre-install task that just creates python.txt? Initially as a blank file, then add actual info if it still squawks about it?

did anybody ever get this working, what a nightmare. just managed to finally get the license server up and running, and auto discovered. But i cannot get a silient install to push out. And they say this version is easier to deploy than others. I think they are just Nelson Thornes under another name.

^ From memory, regardless of where I put python.txt (downloaded from Internet) as part of the package, it still squawked if it couldn't pull the one from the Internet at install time.

 

I suppose you could edit the installer to remove that check (and set python as a dependency package in SCCM/WPP so it ensured a version of Python was installed), but it's on my "probably will do, but not important right now" list.

 

A possible quick-and-dirty hack would be to point JetBrains: Development Tools for Professionals and Teams to an internal webserver with an "updates" folder holding the correct python.txt while you're deploying it.

The dirty hack doesn't work, thought i'd let people know

 

I guess the local service needs access to it, so would probably work with a 'netsh winhttp set proxy' command. Not feasible solution mind.

Yeah, it was an outside chance and you'd end up having to mirror python.org etc...

Bit late to the party on this one but we've recently got PyCharm and I can deploy it silently and manually licence it but I'd like to automate the licence server process. Has anyone had any luck with this?
