Trying to get to the bottom of some deployment issues we've been having. Software only seems to be being deployed sporadically at the moment and seems very hit and miss. You can deploy software to a room of 30 computers and perhaps 70% will install the software and the others won't.

Steps I've taken in a recent test:

* Created new Application and deployed to the "All Desktop and Server Clients" collection.

* Log on to a device that is in the "All Desktop and Server Clients" collection.

* Application doesn't show up in software center!!!

* Log on to a different device in "All Desktop and Server Clients" collection and application shows up in software center as expected.

Both machines have the client as "active".

Any ideas what is going on or how to begin troubleshooting this?!

Done this. No luck. The PC I'm testing on was built after the initial deployment was created but wouldn't have thought this would have had an effect. I've manually updated the policy on the client itself. Some software is showing up! Just not everything. Very confusing. No idea how to even begin troubleshooting

Check the client log files ccmexec, policyevaluator and ccmeval using a tool like CMTrace. Look for any possible errors.

Are you sure the device is in the device collection?

Can you perform any other actions on the client using SCCM?

Can you perform any actions on the client such as connecting to shares, ping or RDP?

If you deploy the application to a test collection which only contains your test machine does the application appear?

I used to deploy software to with Software Center Staff rather than to Machines for optional stuff and other than occasionally having to wait about an hour for something to appear I didn't really have any problems.

My first port of call would be to check you haven't set any dependencies (x64, x86 specific windows version etc) on the deployment that might be stopping it.

If not create a new collection, probably just consisting of one computer you know doesn't work properly, deploy a program that so far hasn't shown up for it and seeing if that solves it. If it does I would add all desktops to it and if not I'd reinstall the sccm client but they are both rather hopeful thoughts as to what might fix it.

Never had a problem with the normal enforced deployment of software (except, again, where sccm seems to think it's an hour in the future so I have to set the time to an hour ago to make it deploy immediately) but I don't need to check software centre for those.

The correct answer is probably to check logs but I almost never do unless it's a last resort.

In case anyone comes across this in future, I had this problem, and it was because I had selected "Hide in Software Center and all notifications" in the User Experience tab of the deployment properties.

Go to Monitoring -> Deployments, right click on the deployment, and select the User Experience tab.

Also look at Administration -> Client Settings -> right click on Default Client Settings -> Properties -> Software Center -> Customize -> "Hide installed applications in Software Center"
