I was wondering were we stood compared to other schools on our annual printing as it seems really high but we actually have no idea if it really is. So I created a quick survey that I was hoping some Edugeekers wouldn't mind filling out. It's only a handful of questions and it's not comprehensive but the results are open so you can see where your schools printing ranks as well.

Any chance a link to the results? I'm really interested in this but we don't have data - we have just implemented PaperCut so I don't want to fill this form in with guesses!

I would but we just updated our printing so only have results since August.

I think you have to be careful though, what is high depends on the school, how they teach and how willing they are to change. For example our Pre-School prints loads, but that is because they print lots of worksheets and have to print out tons of photos as evidence. You may have to do a lot of analysis on your on stats to pull out what is necessary or not. For example, tons of Doc1 files being printed could indicate things being printed out that weren't saved so do they really need to be printed, or was it a student printing out pictures for..... personal use or malicious use?

Definitely. This was never meant to be an all encompassing review on UK schools' printing. I just wanted to be able to compare from a high level what our school prints compared to schools of a similar set up. We will never stop trying to reduce our printing regardless of how much that is and we will look at different ways to do that. I think it's always good to be able to provide numbers to SLT for anything, even if they're rough estimates.

I don't have figures for actual sheets printed, only how many impressions, as my figures are from the printers - so duplex would count twice there, I'm afraid. If you look, my total figure of 708694 is just the mono + colour count.

Looks like we have a higher proportion of colour than others, but our volume isn't unreasonable. Good to know.

This is the same for me - I don't really know how we'd get figures for actual sheets!

I chose sheets because it represents the paper usage more than printer usage. We're not really duplexing that much at the moment so we'd like to see the sheet count drop while the page count stays the same when we do force it a bit more. We got our sheet count from Papercut but a guess or page count shouldn't be discouraged.

We were spending £22,000 on toners a year! Absolutely ridiculous.

Just changed over to Papercut and 14 copiers over the summer - Including repro we've done 175,432 pages since the start of term!

Papercut ?

Reports > Executive Summary > Ad Hoc > Choose date > run.

It will differentiate between total printed pages, sheets as well as simplex/dulpex/colour/mono/print/copy etc
