Office365 Goup with DirSync (ADFS)

We have a staff distribution group which was locked down so only a chosen few staff and a couple of external email accounts (parentmail etc) could send to it. However since we moved over to DirSync (ADFS) I can't set that in the Office365 portal and receive the error message below.

 

The action 'Set-DistributionGroup', 'AcceptMessagesOnlyFromSendersOrMembers', can't be performed on the object 'Staff' because the object is being synchronized from your on-premises organization. This action should be performed on the object in your on-premises organization.

 

Can this be done?

You need to run the powershell commands from your on-site exchange server (assuming you haven't removed it yet)

Sadly the exchange server went years ago
