Biometrics

Our school is looking to go for a cashless catering system using biometrics. We're currently using Eclipse.Net for our library system, this is currently the only place in the school that biometrics are used (self service PC on the library desk).

 

In Eclipse.Net we're currently using Identikit, but i see there's an alternative called BioStore which appears to be a company who also do cashless catering. I'm after opinions on this particular option, does anyone here use Biostore? Would you recommend it? If not what alternatives would you suggest?

EDIT: Appears the head has spoken to someone from a company called Cunninghams, anyone have any experience of them? Looks expensive is my initial reaction.

Cunninghams and biostore used to partner for their cashless catering and provided a good service, we've got them here and things work well (better than Vericool in my experience of both). I'm not sure what the products that they are both providing separately are like but I'd suspect they are pretty good.

 

Support from both has been very good, a quick phone call and they'll solve most of your problems quickly.

I went with Nationwide Retail Systems (NRS) for cashless in my last school, worked fine with Eclipse.net sharing the bio data was a simple setup and worked well. Support was excellent and cost wise was much less than Cunninghams as we looked at that as well.

How does it work with regards to alternative companies sharing bio data with Eclipse? As an identikit user at the moment, would we have to redo current finger prints in the new program or is there a way to port them across per chance? (i hate eclipse/identikit with a passion, relishing the chance to at least get rid of the latter)

All bio data was put and stored in NRS and Eclipse hooked into it, you had to get the identikt license from Eclipse to be "licensed" for it to do it via fingerprints however (unless this has now changed it was a bit of a grey area as the NRS software was smart and would work without that license but Eclipse's stance was you need it for legal use of software).

 

So you will be re-fingerprinting all staff and students on the NRS kit and this will then come back through to Eclipse its a simple process and NRS support were great at getting it setup and working without issues.

We use Eclipse.net (including a self service kiosk) with NRS's biometric solution (TouchID?) as well. Everyone did have to be reregistered, but we've not had any grief with the integration in the two years since we did it (surprisingly, considering Eclipse.net's track record).
