Macbooks (WiFi Issue)

Morning all.

 

Facing a real problem here, we recently moved into our brand new school, we had a network consultant team configure all the network for us and then they handed it over to us. I assumed the Macbook's would be added to the WiFi, turns out they are not.

 

Our WiFi has a completely different infrastructure now, there is not a WiFi key. 2 security groups in AD called WiFiStaff & WiFiStudents and you edit the 'member of' with the computer/mac name in AD.

 

This has worked fine for our Windows laptops, but as I said, having a real problem with the Macbooks.

 

I'm stuck on the log on screen, and I can see the WiFi signal bars at the top (greyed out) and I can't add the Macbook's onto the Student WiFi myself on the Yosemite log on screen.

 

Any help is really appreciated it, as student's are now unable to use these.

I'd go back to the consultants that set it up - clearly it's not working as intended.

 

However, I'm not quite sure if you can get Macs to authenticate using 802.1x in this way... I've certainly never managed to get it to work!

Go back to your installer - one reason I do installs/configurations in house as you know what's been done and how to diagnose if any issues!

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a noob so I could be offering up a bit of a red herring here... (sorry). But are your Macs 'bound' to your AD? I think you would need to do this before it was possible to use AD group policy for WiFi. There's an article from TechRepublic about the binding process which is the Mac equivalent to Domain Joining. Not sure if this would help - I'd be interested to hear your solution though.

If your Macs need to use 802.1X authentication then they need to have a configuration profile installed on them...the link below should help you.
