Had a great view of the UK Paper Plane Championships on Saturday night:

IMG_20151010_211024.jpg

The players on the field must have been so confused as to why they were getting cheered at completely random points; little did they know we were all cheering a paper plane made from an England flag successfully making it to the pitch. Best I saw was from the South Stand (where I was sat) making it all the way to the entrance tunnel at the halfway line.

Second half was a bit better, but in the main I'm actually quite annoyed I missed two of the best games of the tournament in SCOvSAM and AUSvWAL in travelling up to Manchester. Organisation in the stadium was terrible as well--Park and Ride was overwhelmed and they had to announce that travel was free, because the queue for the two ticket machines was so huge. Queue for the bag check was about 10,000 people big (not kidding). And the bar! With 50,000 people at a rugby game you could basically sell beer as fast as you could serve it, but they had no idea what they were doing. One of my friends went to the bar ten minutes before half time, and didn't make it back until fifteen minutes into the second half. 45 minutes to get a round in!

It was summed up nicely by the KFC at the Park & Ride at the end of the day: they ran out of chicken. At Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Disappointed that Wales loss means they must play South Africa next.

Brutal France v Ireland game with the desire not to play NZ next. Looked like the stadium had 85% Irish fans in it which must have helped. With any luck they'll get through to the semis. The Irish seem to be the best of the 4 home nations. Although it looks like they have key players out for the rest of the tournament now.

Did you find the toilets in the Fan Zone? The main ones weren't actually marked on the map but the accessible ones were so there were huge queues at them. We finally found some after fighting our way through the bar queue and using the ones there. Then they wouldn't let you out of the side gate, you had to fight your way back through more of a crowd to get out! Then we noticed the field full of porta-loos as we went to find somewhere without a mile long queue to get a cup of coffee. (We got there very early so couldn't go into the stadium)

Also found myself in front of some rugby "experts" who didn't even know who was playing. Highlight was one guy trying to name the team even though it had been announced, with pictures, 2 minutes before - "Andy Goode's at full back" (you mean Alex Goode - Andy Goode was a fly-half who retired recently) followed by "something Nowell in the front row" (Jack Nowell is on the wing, the player you can't think of is Mako Vunipola)

Edit: just to clarify, they seemed to have strong views on who was playing despite not knowing who they were!

Irish seemed the best of the home nations yesterday, though I think a couple of their key players are injured now and not looking great, also they have a disciplinary pending for O'Brian which doesnt look good for them, why they bother with stupidity like hitting one another when cameras film everything beats me at that level.

Didn't go into the fanzone (I think that's what the enormous crowd was queeing for); we left Lincolnshire about 3:30 and actually made it into the stadium at about 7:15 (followed by twenty minutes at the bar before giving up because we hadn't moved).

I was both delighted and distraught that Nick Easter got a hat trick and man of the match. It's brilliant that Nick Easter of all people was our best player, it's like bringing Chris Moyles on the pitch, but honestly, what was the point in playing him? Fine for Aus where you want your strongest team here and now, but that game should have been used to give young players a run out and experiment. We're not going to be taking him to Japan at 41, are we?

Getting ready for a busy weekend supporting Wales, Ireland, Scotland and France. It's going to be bloody, but it would be nice to hope that one northern hemisphere team can survive and win.

France appear to have tried to disguise themselves by wearing Welsh kit to get local support ;)

I would love to think they had a chance, but... NZ are so good and so quick

My cousin is watching live in Paraparaumu in the South Island NZ and it is half 9 Sunday morning there!

Paraparaumu isn't in the South Island...

Well, that's one team that will be in the final ... Possibly one ref too.

Got to admire Nigel Owens silently waiting for the handbags to be put down before sorting out the cause of the fight.

Can a ref be Sports Personality of the Year?
