Hi.

Is there a way of assigning a 'team' achievement to a house, i.e. not to a specific student in that house, but to the house as a whole (a team). Initially I thought to create six dummy accounts and assign them to each house, which would allow teachers to assign house 'team' achievements to those dummy accounts, but I didn't know what the ramifications of that would be. It would certainly affect our numbers on roll, but would it cause any problems for the upcoming censuses?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Don't add 'dummy' students - it'll mess up your numbers on roll and they'll be included in your census return which will cause you all kinds of grief!

There's no way AFAIK of assigning points to a house, however one workaround could be to add an Achievement type specifically for it (e.g. "Whole House Point") and then add this to the house prefect (assuming you have them of course)

Then you could filter any reports on that Achievement Type if you wanted to see the student's own points or just the whole house points.

One downside to this is that as it's not possible to filter the Achievement points field in Individual Reports, you'd get an inaccurate total on the prefect's report.

Thanks! Seems like a viable workaround, so I'll give it a shot.

As a matter of interest - is this concept used elsewhere?

I know we award points to houses for sporting events, we've been working around it by splitting the points amongst members of the team or assigning them to one member. Adding house points "properly" would be very handy!

I second that. It's a bit of a no-brainer for me.

I currently have it in my monster spreadsheet of House data - I just add them to the houses there, as students' HP goes toward rewards, we couldn't do it fairly any other way

I discussed this a while back with our House leader, there is definitely a concept of adding points to the House as a whole @PhilNeal and for it to work, you need to have some workflow that captures input from any member of that house, as well as give the ability to generically assign points to the House.

In our primary we don't have any individual points, the points get added to the class house totals. In secondary they do have individual points.

The workaround we came up with was that if you wanted to assign generic house points that each individual involved would get 1 point. This builds the team and working together concept. So the house benefits and it's registered against participants. So in theory if you award points to the house you would globally add 1 or more points to everyone in that house. This can be a big job and could add hundreds of points, but if done evenly across the board, is still fair. Assuming your house membership is a fair split. There are also implications related to the intrinsic value of a point and whether they are linked to prizes, or a house point shop.

Adding them to one person, dummy, prefect etc. doesn't really work and isn't fair.

We never implemented this system by the way, but it was discussed at length and seemed to be the only way to do it in SIMS.
