Folder path search not working

I'm not sure how to explain this so here goes!

 

A member of staff told us that other staff cannot open their folder links they have been sending out via email. I was confused at first but what they mean is they have been sending out the path of a folder via email for other people to copy into the start menu search and get directed to that folder. So for example if I type C:\Program Files (x86) and you copy and paste that into the start menu search box it would take you to the folder. The computers here are not taking you to the folder, it's doing a search for files or folders of that location, and many times it's not bringing anything back.

 

So instead of being able to navigate to the folder in a folder, in a folder, on the share by copying and pasting the path, they're having to manually go to the folder. The search works fine on a server and takes you to the destination rather than doing a search of the drive.

 

It's not a setting for just one PC, it's somehow happened to all the PCs, yet as far as I am aware no one has done anything deliberately for this to happen. And I have no idea how long it's been happening.

 

We have a few other weird things going on with the servers, but not sure if they're linked or not. For example, I created a shortcut for the Staff Start menu in a redirection folder. It was working and appearing last week, yet today the shortcut has disappeared from their start menu, yet the shortcut hasn't been touched and still has the right information needed for it to work. It's just not showing. Perhaps it's linked?

Can you not paste the address into My Computer's address bar instead? That's what I do; never thought of searching for a path.

Never thought of that but I've just tried it. I get an error saying "Accessing the Resource ***** has been disallowed, even though its somewhere I can get into. However, even if that did work it would be hard to change the staff to over to doing it in there.
