Hi

What ports do I need to open up on the clients firewall for the Solus 3 agent to install?

8739:TCP:localsubnet:enabled:SOLUS 3 Agent UI

 

Those (Obviously subnet option might want to change)

I'm also having firewall problems with a fresh install of SOLUS 3.9.

I have opened up ports and done everything else as instructed, both by the Capita pdf and the suggestions on this forum. I have triple-checked my GPO. The same GPO is sent to the server and the workstations. gpresult /r shows that the GPO has been applied to the server under Computer section but - the agents will not install unless I drop the server's firewall. The workstations firewalls are up and work fine.

The messages in SOLUS 3 usually read: Install Active - Checking Operating System, Copying Agent Files, The Remote Machine Cannot Be Contacted.

Any thoughts?

Is the workstation and server on two different IP ranges?

 

Can you ping the server where SOLUS 3 is installed from the workstation and vise versa using the IP address? Also can you ping the using the server name and workstation name?

 

If it works for the IP Address but not for the workstation and server name, you could try and add the workstation name and IP address in the host file on the server. Then add the Server name and IP address in the host file on the workstation. Had a similar issue at a school where the curriculum and admin networks were on two different IP ranges. When I did this workaround, SOLUS 3 installed the agents and SIMS on the workstations on the curriculum network.

Well everything is on the same network and IP range, and I can ping every machine from any other machine - but, when I added a couple of workstations' IPs to the host file on the server it worked!

 

So it looks like unless I can find another way round it I've got to add ALL the workstations into the server's host file, and make sure any new machines also get added! What a bore - but it least it works.
