School Calendar

Hi all,

 

I have been asked is there anyway we can have a school calendar that is managed maybe from the server or some kind of backend that will show on the teachers desktop. Maybe in the top right hand corner all the time at login? This is so we can display everything that's going on in school. It will be a week view.

There may be better ideas, but BGInfo could be used for this purpose.

 

Have some process (or someone from the admin team) save an image of the week's calendar to a shared location, then insert the image into BGInfo and push it out.

We use a Google calendar, for this so available inside and outside of school, also you can get a link to open it on the desktop as a hta if necessary.

We also use Google calendars. The particular advantage being that you can subscribe staff to public and private calendars and embed the public ones into your website for parents. Staff can be subscribed to all calendars (ie have one for each yeargroup) but choose whether they hide ones that are not relevant to them to unclutter things. A simple login script would open the webpage on login and it is very easy to connect to mobiles and tablets.

If this discussion is going in the direction of 'what do you use for your school calendar' then my response is different - we have ours in Exchange, published as a .ics that staff can subscribe to.

 

I only did this last week, so I haven't got as far as embedding it yet, but I suspect there's a Wordpress plugin somewhere for embedding .ics shared calendars if we wanted to - currently we use a PDF of our WallPlanner that is published in three variants for different users.

Can anyone recommend someone that would write a program for us? We want a calendar that sits in the top right hand corner of the screen on the desktop that only certain members of staff can edit!

I just quickly edited some code for a .hta file I had to include an embedded google calendar in it. Let me know if you want it? Might not be 100% correct but may point you in the right direction.
