Laptop losing network connections

The head's laptop is a member of the school domain, she logs on and after a while loses connectivity to the network and is asked for a password when she tries to access email or the mapped drives. The only way to regain the connection is to log back on. Although the school has wireless access points she's connected via the wired lan. Any ideas?

Could be a dodgy driver see if there are any updated drivers. Or possibly a dodgy port on the switch?

Is the network cable plugged straight into the laptop, or is there a port replicator in between the two?

That sounds very similar to a problem I was experiencing with loads of student laptops - only it was wireless access disconnecting.

 

I found the solution to be driver related - update the drivers, and if the latest version is installed, I'd uninstall and re-apply it again. The wireless network symbol didnt actually appear to be disconnected when it happened with the pupils, but it lost connectivity and eventually froze beyond all use - until a reboot.

 

Failing that, I presume the wireless network adapter on the laptop is turned off / disabled? Maybe a wireless network is interfering with the wired connection.

The wireless network at that end of school is very hit n miss, so I suggested today that she physically turn off the wireless network adaptor in case it was taking 'control' of the networking and overuling the wired connection as it were. The laptop is plugged straight into a wall socket that connects to the main switch, another laptop (XP) in the same room connected the same way is fine.
