Hi,

When I am trying to upgrade Windows 7 with all our software on it fails and says "Something Happened" 0x80070002 - 0X20016.

I am just wondering why this is? Tried everything I can think of and also tried loads from Google. This error is when i am using the tool. When i use the ISO it installs and then says that it failed and reverts back to Windows 7. I am have not tried a clean install yet. The only thing I can think of is because this computer was imaged so have obviously been sys prepd.

Anyone had this error and fixed it?

Thanks in Advance.

Does this error happen after it finishes copying files and is preparing to restart the machine? If so, you may have a corrupt BCD Store. I had this issue on a few machines and rebuilding the BCD Store finally got Windows 10 working.

Hi,

When I run the media tool it doesn't do anything it literally starts and then says something happened. If I run the iso it does copy the files and then once it reboots it then says failed to install and then reboots back to Windows 7.

I have also tried that in the link jamesb and it just says failed to install in the Windows update screen.

I am starting to think it must have something to do with my Windows 7 image.

I'm figuring this is an update to windows 10?

I had this issue, when I did a clean install from windows 10 ISO, it gave me a more meaningful error.

It was complaining that my motherboard had a uefi system rather than bios, and MBR disks were not allowed with UEFI. I had to reformat my disks to GPT and then it went on no trouble.

I read somewhere, can't remember where now though that it has something to do with region and it has to be set to United states
