Jawloms Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Exchange 2010 with no Service Packs I have taken over as NM a couple of months ago and am still finding little odd things like this one. I can't log in to the administrator's email account. If I go to OWA, I can type the username and password (which I know it's accepting because it tells you if you get it wrong) then it immediately presents me with a screen saying; The item you tried to access no longer exists. The item wasn't found. You or a delegate might have moved or deleted it using another computer or a mobile phone. On PowerShell on the Exchange server I typed Get-Mailbox -Identity *admin's email address* And it tells me that the ServerName for the mailbox is not the name of the current email server. I can only assume that it is the previous email server which doesn't exist and hasn't done for so long that there are no backups of it. Simple question - What do I do to get a working administrator email address again? I'm trying to sort an SSL and they will only send the emails to certain email addresses. Thank you Stuart
Meldrew Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Can you add the email address as an alias to another mailbox, or does it then just say that the address is being used somewhere? Meldrew
Jawloms Posted August 11, 2015 Author Posted August 11, 2015 OK so I've kind of got administrator@debe..... working with a little help from ADSI Edit, but now I have an issue with admin@debe....... If I try and add admin@debe..... to my own email account it says; Error: The proxy address "smtp:admin@debe....." is already being used by "Admin". Please choose another proxy address. However if I type Get-Mailbox -Identity admin@debe....., I get the below; The operation couldn't be performed because object 'admin@debe.....' couldn't be found on 'DHS- DC01.debenham-cc3.internal'. + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: ( [Get-Mailbox], ManagementObjectNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : E0AACA50,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.GetMailbox Searching AD for "Admin" returns only the administrator account (which doesn't have the admin@ address against it), the Built in Administrators group, and a group called "Admin" which has our admin staff in it which has no email addresses against it. Any thoughts anyone please? Stuart
DavetheITguy Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 go into the email address properties, mail flow settings, delivery options, forward messages to your email address or use Manage full access permissions, add yourself into here and it will appear in outlook under you email address in the left hand pane, you'll have full access to all the inbox, outbox, drafts etc. It works really well, I have the servicedesk email account, Printing. I have done the same thing for the admin staff for the main admin account. Let me know how it goes.
Jawloms Posted August 11, 2015 Author Posted August 11, 2015 But I can't find it anywhere, so I can't look at its properties.
DavetheITguy Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 are you able to setup a teamviewer session ?
FN-GM Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I would seriously update your exchange (all service packs and roll-ups) from a security point of view, you never know if might fix this.
Jawloms Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 @DavetheITguy - Whilst I'm sure you're genuine, I don't know you from Adam so I'd rather not but thanks. @FN-GM - I'd love to get the updates done, but according to one of my technicians the previous NM tried a couple of times to apply SP3 and it failed each time so I'm wary. I'm almost tempted to setup a new Exchange 2013 server and migrate everyone across. Stuart
3s-gtech Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 If you're licensed to do so and you have the time, it would probably be worth moving over to 2013. That won't fix your mailbox though. The 'admin' account may be an alias of another account, which is why you can't find the mailbox nor assign it to another user.
DavetheITguy Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I didn't mean give me control, I meant a session where I could view your screen, have you tried logging on as a local administrator. If exchange was installed with that account your account may not have the relevant permissions to see things.
