Morning All,

Noticed our filter page has changed, and looking at the admin console seems the new options are live, but require Unify :(

Would be interested to see what options there are from anyone who has access:

Using groups and users

If your RM SafetyNet subscription includes user-based filtering, you can control your users' internet access by assigning them to groups which have different web access policies.

Groups

Some user groups (for example, Student, Teaching Staff, Governor) are provided through RM Unify. Membership in these groups is assigned when users are provisioned.

You can also create custom groups, for example to meet the requirements of after-school clubs. You then need to assign the group members manually. To assign a web access policy to a user, a group is always required - even if the group has only a single member.

You can edit your custom groups, for example to change their associated policy and group membership.

You can prioritise all your groups, to ensure that the required policy applies when users are members of multiple groups.

For instructions see:

Prioritising groups

Users

You can also view and edit the group memberships of an individual user. This can be a convenient way to set up filtering for a new user joining your establishment. It can also be useful if you need to troubleshoot a filtering issue.

For instructions see:

Viewing and editing a user's groups

Boo apparently their website lies, and it's not live yet :(

Apparently will be free for the first year though, and then options to pay for it... :( So guessing it's not actually part of any subscription so far

Hi all,

The initial stage of the upgrade to RM Safetynet is now live. This includes a redesigned interface, giving you a much cleaner and simpler workspace. All of your existing settings will still be there; it will just be easier and more straightforward for you to be able to perform actions and view your information.

The other enhancements to RM SafetyNet include:

New high performance hardware in our redesigned data centres

A new version of the ‘Squid’ platform, providing an improved and robust platform

Updated help and information section

And you'll also find the new design optimised for touch screen devices, giving you a seamless experience.

Next, User Base Filtering will be available as an option. RM SafetyNet will sync with your Microsoft Windows schools Active Directory to allow the creation of filtering rules for specific users and groups in your establishment. Adding user based filtering couldn’t be simpler.

We'll let everyone know as soon as the User Based Filtering option is available.

There will be no price increase for the new version.

The user based filtering feature is an option and there will be an additional charge for this. However, as a member of SWGfL schools will be able to use RM SafetyNet with user based filtering for a period of Twelve months without any additional charges. If you decide to keep it, the price of RM SafetyNet will increase to £250.00 per year for a primary school and £450.00 per year for a secondary school from 01/09/16

I hope this helps, Julia

@SWGfL_Official That's really rather disappointing really Julia... It's been a "New Feature Available" to SafetyNet customers, which is now a paid for upgrade? £230 -> £450? Nearly double for the feature.

I expect it's to cover the cost of RM Unify which will be being used for the syncing of users.

Lightspeed / Smoothwall is more than the £250 or so that it is for SafetyNet though, by example. So cost wise I don't think it's over inflated pricing. They could just increase the price of SafetyNet and include this functionality by default but that would be at the detriment of schools who don't want / need it. Edited by Edu-IT
