Completely agree. Was all over the place had a lot to bring into ep 1 for an iconic series. But enjoyable to learn what we learned all in one ep, if all a bit too easy and convenient. It needs to slow down a bit yet keep the pace up so we do not get frustrated with stand out episodes like before.

 

I enjoyed the character development of the original series. I hope they slow things down and allow us to get to know the main players. Too many shows seem to rush like crazy towards the closing credits and you're left feeling underwhelmed and not being able to engage with what you're seeing. I find the newer Doctor Who series do this but other people may love the format. Quality over amount of content I guess

Was I the only one that though Episode 3 was a let-down, I much prefer the 'darker' monster episodes from series gone by?

Mulder for instance not reporting creepy motel guy?

Haven't watched Ep3 yet but can't say I have been overly impressed so far. Not terrible but it does seem rushed to cram in as much stuff as possible with very little actual emotion in the acting/script. Maybe this was always the case but episode 1 for example Mulder is introduced to a group of people that have created a UFO and he basically has no reaction to it, no questions and nobody says who these people are or what they are doing (unless I missed it). I know by this point they have seen a lot of strange stuff but still. Also he made a big deal about the girl being the key to the whole thing and the proof of what was going on but I think a working UFO would be much more compelling evidence and him bringing that into the public light never seems to cross his mind?

 

This is partly why I never watched the last few seasons of it, lots of inconsistent conspiracy theory stuff crammed in and no real sense of connection to any of it.

They have admitted it was rushed, they were not given a good amount of time to get it all done. Even admitted that they struggled.

 

If they do more (which they are open to doing) they will want to take their time with it.

 

Still in my view it was better than season 8 onwards and felt like X-Files but I feel they need more time/budget for better episodes and certainly more than 6. I'd like to see at least 10-15 if we don't get a full season for a good amount of story.

 

Yet to see the last episode.

Scully is still stunning, think half the reason I watched it to start with was her.

 

It's not something I am rushing to watch..unlike walking dead, suits, last leg etc..

I seem to recall an interview with Gillian Anderson recently who said that they (Anderson and Duchovney) didn't want to really film more than 6 becaese it's so tiring and they aren't spring chickens any more.

Saying that though, I'm enjoying them so far, but they don't seem as dark as the originals but the last one was fun (they always had a fun or silly one in each of the orginal series).

This funny thing happens to me wherein the original credits & theme tune start playing and I come over all uncritical for an hour or so. So glad they didn't change that bit.

 

Episode 3 was a bit silly, though. But still. X Files! My original TV love.
