Weird Apple Issue

Hey Guys

 

So one of the members of staff here who has a MacBook Pro keep getting the following pop up box appear. SCCE is the name of our wireless and it all seems a bit odd to me. The pop up will come up every 5 minutes and goes in front of all other windows without you being able to do anything but close it.

 

This box doesn't appear on any other machine.

 

Never seen this before so I was hoping one of you guys may have come across it?

is proxy configured correctly? Looks like its trying to load something and failing.

I may be wrong but I''m sure when you join an SSID on any Apple device it phones home to that URL to test the internet connection.

 

DO you use a captive portal? What Auth do you use?

Thats just popped up on 2 Staff Members Macs here too. We don't use Captive Portal or Proxy for them.

His proxy settings where configured to point directly at county's proxy (which should be fine) although all the others I have got pointing at our Smoothwall Box, I have changed his to the Smoothwall Box to see if this fixes the problem.

I'll check auto join networks too but I'm pretty sure that's turned off. Thank you

I did hear something about them phoning home but didn't think it was supposed to show this every 5 minutes? We use Kerberos Auth via Smoothwall.

we use Smoothwall. Haven't seen this problem though.

If iCloud is being used then the SSID info will be stored "in the cloud" for all devices. Would this be causing any problems?

Seems people on Reddit are getting the same, even some Samsung Galaxy devices! Seems they use Apples call home URL to check for captive portal too.

Thanks guys That explains the reason as to what it is, I'm glad to know we're not the only one's. Is there anyway to stop this page coming up as I reckon it'll eventually happen on all Apple devices, or doesn't anyone know of a solution yet?

I've not tried it as I'm guessing it will go away when Apple notice somebody has made a boo boo. But maybe move this somewhere else /system/Library/CoreServices/captive Network Assistant.app as thats whats popping up.

I've had major issues with this at my school. Students can not log in to the Macbooks on OS X 10.9.5 as the WiFi is disconnected at the login screen. I log in as a local admin and the WiFi connects with the splash screen you have posted. As soon as I log out the WiFi disconnects and Network Accounts are unavailable. This only happens with Macs on 10.9.5 connected to WiFi as I have a few machines on 10.10.4 and they log in fine. All but 4 of my 300 student Macbook Pros are on 10.9.5 so this causing all manner of headaches!

The only I've managed to log the students into the laptops is to hard wire the Macbook to a network point.

 

Someone at Apple is getting fired today!
