Sophos UTM Bonded ADSL

Hi,

 

Does anyone know if you can bond 2 lines together on a Sophos UTM>

 

We are moving to Office 365 in the summer and will have a redudant 150MB virgin broadband line so would like to purchase a UTM and bond the 2 connections together to get 300MB (or at least load-balanced).

 

Can you also add a 3rd line from a different supplier as the backup line?

You can on the free home edition so I assume you can on the 'proper' one. If I remember right it was called link balancing when I did it. And your backup link is multipath Edited July 14, 2015 by Dodgex1

Hi, not sure about the Sophos, but for sure you can load balance with the like of a Watchguard UTM firewall. I don't think you'll get true bonding without kit that the internet line provider supports, as it would need something at both ends typically. As long as you've got plenty of users then load balancing or some kind of policy based routing should split the traffic across the lines.

We do this with our county connection and our external ADSL so we can do things like NTP and SMTP without punching through county firewalls.

 

We use a Sophos SG115 UTM to dot his, but it won't be true 'bonding' (since this has to be done at the ISP's end), it'll be load balancing for outbound connections. I like to think it's pretty good at it too, you get a lot of control over what traffic goes where.
