Free space nightmare

Just been taking a look at my virtual servers and how much free space each one has, when I've noticed that our SIMS server s: drive share, is 80Gb but only has 1.4Gb free space. After looking at this a bit more closely I think i've found the issue. When we paid the LA to come in and migrate SIMS to the virtual server, instead of use the 2 virtual Hdd's i'd created for them, they have only used one, and partitioned it like this, 40Gb for Windows, 80Gb for SIMS, 200Gb for storage. I currently have a 200Gb drive that I'd asked them to use for SIMS sitting as unprovisioned.

 

There's nothing I can do about moaning at them with regards the setup, as this was done over a year ago, I suppose I should have noticed earlier. The issue i've got now is my 80Gb partition for SIMS is very close to being full.

 

Is there any way I can transfer all of the data over to the 200Gb drive that's not being used yet, and also transfer my shares with the data? Also, if I transferred all the data to the spare drive, should I change the drive letter of the new drive to replace the old drive so that paths to SIMS remain intact?

 

Or is the best course of action going to be trying to delete old unneeded files then get the LA out to migrate SIMS to the new drive?

That's how I'd do it. May be able to do it outside of Windows on the VM, depending on your setup you may be able to just shift the .vhdx around on the host then change the drive letters. No reason why that wouldn't work, with backups prepped and ready of course!
