localzuk Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I've been asked about the possibility of Kindles in classes again this morning, but have (sadly) shot it down to start with. However, I'd love to get Kindles to work in school. They're a great device and will save on the hassle of buying books... So, has anyone done this? If so, how many have you got? How do you add books to them? Are you following the rules and assigning 1 account per device to properly license the content? Is there any form of "Kindle in Schools" program by Amazon?

siuko Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 We have 310 kindles at our school. We have them all on one account so the finance staff can add books to them. Most books can be sent to upto 6 kindles at one time (certain books may state a higher or lower number). It is also possible to remove a book from a kindle and reallocate to another kindle. This was all checked with amazon. The two biggest issues we had were 1) Due to the way our internet works we had to get a separate adsl line for the kindle to connect to unfiltered (we lock down the browser etc on the kindles using parental locking) 2) Initially the Manage my kindle page for the account had some issue with handling 310 kindles on it! They have updated this page since then and it seems to work ok.

I don't have it in front of me, but it has been mentioned a great many times on here and was confirmed to me by SWGfL when I asked them down here a few years ago. It comes from Janet (who all RBC's connect to), and their requirement to prevent infiltration/security breaches of their network.
