[sccm 2012] Question about Deployment Types

I'm busy packages up software ready to deploy in September and before I spend hours adding applications I thought I would ask on here about Deployment Types.

 

I have a number of applications where I have 32bit and 64bit MSI. Do I create separate 32bit and 64bit applications for each MSI or can I create an Application and use Deployment Types for the 32bit and 64bit MSI and use a rule to say X64 for 64bit OS etc...

Personally I'd create Deployment Types, it will be easier to manage and is a more intuitive way to handle it. Creating separate applications for each 32bit and 64bit msi would look messy I'd imagine.

I'd use deployment types, this is the kind of thing its designed for.

True, but why maintain multiple applications when you can maintain one with multiple deployments. Any changes made to the application apply to all its deployments (eg if you retire, supercede etc).

I thought that would be the case and more sensible to use deployment types.
