Printers - Setting default when applied via GPO

Hello,

 

We deploy printers using this method. Wondering how easy it is to specify a default printer though? Can you assign a hierarchy so printer at top of list is default?

 

Most teacher computers have a printer mapped that is near them but also a general MFP is mapped. I would like the local classroom to be default.

I don't think you can do that... This method is 'printer deployment lite'...

 

I think you'd have more success and control going over to deploying printers in the GPP section of group policy.

We use the GPP Section and would recommend using that if you can, it makes it a bit easier to specify the mappings and you can elect one of them to be a default then.

The only problem I can see with that is the fact on the print server we use PaperCut so the printers are not standard TCP/IP but use the PaperCut Port. Can this still be achieved using GPP while maintaining the printer restrictions applied by PaperCut?

We are using papercut too and ours works fine...

If you setup the printer on the server with the appropriate papercut port it makes no difference whether you then deploy that connection via GPP or by right clicking in print management and doing it via windows printer connections.

Ahh, I see the problem. I was trying to add it under computer configuration instead of User. Working now
