Got a Smartboard that I suspect is on the way out.

It will (generally) respond to the pens, but not to touch (or at least not accurately - it registers the touch way away from the point of contact).

I've tried 20 point calibration, uninstalling/reinstalling, replacing the USM, resetting the board, cleaning the board, removing all the rubbish stuck to the frame etc etc. Anyone got any better ideas?

I have a suspicion that the problem started when the teacher decided to upgrade to the latest version (which we're not licensed for). I may try their "cleaner" tool in case it still has parts of that install (or a different laptop!) but looking for more suggestions to try when I'm back there next week.

Is touch accurate for a thin vertical strip in the centre of the board? Does it get progressively out of sync the further to the edges that you go? Sounds very similar to the problem I have. Its as if the board thinks it's still the laptops' 16:9 aspect ratio when in fact the physical board (and projected image) are 4:3... I'm stumped.

I think I saw a Touch Recognition thing, but it was greyed out. I'll have a play next week.

Not that I've noticed, but I'll check on Monday.

@dry - it looks like a different problem. I think it's picking up interference from something. Tried moving wires, which helped a bit, but when I touch the display I get brief horizontal lines like back in the old days of TV.

Definitely try it on a different laptop.

Is it an old SB580? Sounds similar to a problem I had where it would calibrate and work for about an hour then get progressively worse until it didn't even recognise the pen touches. Had to replace the board in the end.

Tried a new(er) laptop - no joy. It is an old board. Best tell the head to crack open the piggy bank...

Get a hold of the smartboard 9.7 and run the edge trace test if any values are higher than 2 smart would class that as a fail.

*Hopes that I can find the discs lurking*
