mavhc Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 As I understand it remotly controls word/excel/powerpoint, etc locally installed on your computer. That sounds secure.
deKay Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I installed the plugin (MSI) via SCCM to all student machines, then force install the PSI Online chrome extension and it works fine for us here Could you point me at how to install NPAPI plugins for Chrome, please? Via MSI or GPO. If I can do that, I could just install Java rather than some dodgy looking plugin.
deKay Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 That sounds secure. From what I've seen, it simulates an email client, word processor, spreadsheet package etc. rather than use Word, Excel or Powerpoint directly. According to the notes I have they don't need to be installed.

The MSI is located at https://ecdluk.psionline.com/phoenix/s/lw/PSIIAPlugin.msi you can just push that out however you normally would (GPO, Impero, SCCM) The Chrome Extension they are now using has the code leneiifcmnfminekdbgbofkdddlkhcep, I use GPO to install this.
deKay Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Thanks. Any way to test the plugin is installed and working for the actual exams?
KibosJ Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Thanks. Any way to test the plugin is installed and working for the actual exams? If you go to https://ecdluk.psionline.com/phoenix/s/login/sysreq.do? and click on InApplication tests using the plugin, choose your office version and it will tell you if it is working. I also have a GPO that tells chrome to allow pop-ups on psionline.com so that you don't have to allow them every time.
Garacesh Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 If you go to https://ecdluk.psionline.com/phoenix/s/login/sysreq.do? and click on InApplication tests using the plugin, choose your office version and it will tell you if it is working. Handy! I've just been logging in as an actual user (a kid that has since been excluded, I think) and starting a test.
deKay Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Hmm. Might be at cross purposes here. We're not using PSIOnline - we're using BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT
KibosJ Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Hmm. Might be at cross purposes here. We're not using PSIOnline - we're using BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT I believe PSI Online is the system used to deliver the qualification from BCS (PSI Online was formerly known as EnlightKS)
Garacesh Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I believe PSI Online is the system used to deliver the qualification from BCS (PSI Online was formerly known as EnlightKS) Indeed. It used to be ecdl.enlight.gtld of which I don't remember, but they changed it a few months ago. Same server, by the looks of it, just different DNS record.
deKay Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 So it doesn't run on the system the demo does? Activ - ECDL Demo
mavhc Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 So it doesn't run on the system the demo does? Activ - ECDL Demo Seems to run without any plugin, similar to a training thing I wrote a decade ago. Complete rubbish of course, you can only complete the task in the one prescribed way, can't click X button, have to click File then Close. Can't double click a file to open, have to click once then click Open, etc etc
deKay Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Finally using this for real today. Mostly working OK, although their servers have timed out a few times. One student got to question 34 (of 35), submitted her answer, and got sent back to the login screen. She logged back in and had to restart the whole test again, and yes, same thing happened at Q34 again. Very odd.
KibosJ Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Are any of you guys using Impero? I've found that adding the psionline domain to Impero's white list has fixed a few issues for us (questions not loading, crashing tests, etc)
Ratcliffepg Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Try to make this work on Chrome..... plugin is installed, extension is installed, java is enable for Chrome... but no joy.... basically never passes the plugin test.......
synaesthesia Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Try to make this work on Chrome..... plugin is installed, extension is installed, java is enable for Chrome... but no joy.... basically never passes the plugin test....... Such a necro-thread that there is no way anything in it is still relevant - half the technology can't be used any more. I would suggest starting a new thread with lots of detail please!
