Hi Guys

i have been asked to make sure all my paperwork is up to date so i have created a threw folders but i was wondering what else i need

Current Folders:

Network Infomation - Access Information

Disaster Recover

IT Assets

Loans of equeptment

Orders

Pat Testing

IT Policies

I assume your routine backup details are in the network information folder?

 

Any contract renewal dates to be aware of?

 

Any procedures someone else might need to do in the event you can't, that you might need to document (creating a new year intake for example)

 

Any risk assessments that don't come under other policies?

Yeah backups come under network infomation

We dont do new year intakes but i could do a request form for new staff and permishion levels that would be good

What do you mean by network standards documentation

 

Do you have a document that states what are your standards for contractors or installers to use? Only use Cat5e or have you moved on to 6? Do you require a certain standard of testing to be handed over at the end of an install? How should your patch panels be cabled and do you have a naming convention that installers should follow?

 

Essentially it should be a document that could be handed over to a contractor who is building you a new block and you would end up with the same quality as the rest of your network. It can also be handed over to a replacement so they know what should be expected and get up to speed on your conventions.

 

It may be overkill but it is nice to have in advance of a project in case a contractor asks you. We started developing ours after a contractor wired patch panels that we felt were subpar but they said they followed all conventions. Not sure what conventions they were talking about but when asking around the advice we were given was that unless we had given them our standards then we didn't really have a leg to stand on to get them to redo, so we had to get our cabler in to redo and of course after they the original contractor tried blaming him for any issue.

 

There seems to be various names for it, Network Specification document, Cabling standards, network standards documention, etc.
