adamholt1 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Very new to DNS - never really done anything much with it before so trying to pick bits up as I go along. So.. I can't ping google, or any other website external from the network. I can however access the websites? Is this something simple?
Oaktech Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Can you traceroute? My money is on you, or an upstream proxy, blocking ICMP for ping.
adamholt1 Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Yes - looking that way. Downfalls of having a council ISP. I've sent an email request but i'm sure it will get replied to sometime next term.........
ricki Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Hi Start from the beginning ring county to see if internet down.. Now go to server a and do an nslook up on internal client and then url lookup like http://www.google.com to see if dns is down if internal works but external fails and county is up reboot modem then server. Now check forwarders are. Corrtect in dns. Check ip setting in nic card of server and it has correct dns server and is fixed. Check dhcp has correct dns for client and client are getting correct ip address and settings. Richard
