Ramadan Kareem :)

Question: If no-one eats between sunrise and sunset, what happens to all the coffee shops and restaurants in Saudi? Do they all close down during the day?

The only month where it is safe to order pizza/kfc/takeaway via taxi.

How does this work? I've never heard of this.

Order a Taxi, and tell them to go get you KFC?

Actually it's not far from the truth. Not sure what @Galway meant but here it's common to send a driver out for food. Or even book a private taxi from your residence.

There are queues of drivers mixed with real punters and the driver just hands a mobile to the server who takes the order from the little madams back at home! It's a bummer when they're having a party with a large order :(

There are also increasing numbers of services like JustEat here now. Actually, McDonalds and KFC run their own delivery service anyway.

I discovered this in Egypt a while ago, I was amazed. They's make a killing doing that here!

Taxis here don't have meters! Though it is promised. However with a private driver it's a negotiated rate which is very cheap here, also bear in mind fuel is 10p / litre for high grade ;)

My great grandparents used to do this with orders of alcohol....

You should really be infractionated for tainting this thread with such talk :p

“Speeding before iftar goes against the spirit of Ramadan, which is a month of patience,” Fuad Kawther, a Saudi engineer, said.

Valid point, really.. Isn't Ramadan supposed to be* about patience and self-control? Not "vociferously waiting for the moment you're allowed to eat again"

* I say "supposed to be" as I'm not very well-versed on the teachings of the Qu'Ran, so I'm not sure.

Sure is... Sabr....

Patience is a big thing in Islam not just for Ramadan...
