Battery light flashing

Hi,

 

I have an E5540 laptop that someone spilt a cup of tea on. Miraculously it's working, boots up, logs on etc. but whether or not the charger is plugged in the battery light flashes on off with an orange light. I've Checked the battery and it's fine, there are no errors on the laptop at all. I just wondered if any one had any ideas and if it safe to use? (It has dried out completely)

Not sure about the 5540, but I've got a E3330 that displayed the same symptoms... I replaced the battery and the charger and all was well, but I believe there is a power management section just inboard of the charging socket and if that is damaged it will also exhibit the same symptoms.

 

Out of interest, does it/has it also moan(ed) about not being able to identify the charger when it boots up?

Sounds like something on the board may be shorting since the battery indicator should only warn you when the battery is running low on charge or needs to be replaced. If you have a spare battery just try that anyway to see what happens but if it doesn't help then it's likely there is not much you can do about the warning light. Unfortunately liquid damaged laptops often are never the same again unless your lucky so if the only problem is the battery light I'd call that a winner considering what could have broken instead!

No it doesn't complain about the charger. If you didn't notice the flashing light you wouldn't think anything happened to it.

NokiX I tried a different battery but still the same issue. To be honest I'm with you on that, it works and displays no other symptoms so I'm no too worried. We'll see how it goes. Thanks.

Little tiny black sticker over the offending flashing light? Or colour it in with black pen?
