One of our suppliers has come up with some HP refurbs i7 8GB 500GB coming in at a very good price of £235 per unit.

Hoping to do a big refresh of a good number of desktops.

If I was to be purchasing something with those specs brand new I'd be around the £500+ mark.

I have never purchased refurbs before and I am hesitant to do so.

The condition and the limited warranty worries me but this price seems almost too good to be true / too good of a deal.

Just wondered if could post some opinions on your past refurb experiences?

Been using refurb laptops (Lenovo T420's) for well over 3 years and refrub desktops (Dell) for I think last 2. Will be buying 120+ again this year. They have proved to be no less reliable than new kit and are excellent value.

That spec for that money does sound like a very good price.

I was in the same boat but we are finding desktops are lasting much longer, we have some 7 year old machines still in service. We have had refurbs for 3 years now and touch wood they are going well :) with only 2 year warranty. You may find that if things go wrong they will go wrong in the first few months.

@ICTDirect_Dave might be able to offer a competitive quote here too.

Sometimes you have to think how much is warranty per machine? How likely is it that parts will fail across machines? RAM and HDD and possibly PSU are the most likely parts to fail. How much would it be to replace these - the same or more of an extended warranty? My view is get some free warranty on the machines, if parts fail after, cross that bridge when come to it.

Those same machines were being offered to me today with 12 months warranty for £250

Everything we buy laptop/desktop wise is refurb now. The machines come to us looking like new and have 12 months warranty on them for a lot less than a comparable new PC

Were the £235 and £250 ones Z200 models? I had a similar email yesterday from a supplier trying to flog refurbs of same spec but they were £299...

Morning all!

Thankyou for the kind words.

A lot of you know of us at ICT Direct already, but for those that don't. We're the UK's number 1 supplier of refurbished computer hardware to the Education Sector. Desktops, Laptops, Montiors, Servers, you name it I've got thousands of different solutions for you, all backed by our no quibble warranty.

Whilst we aim to be the cheapest on the market we do occasionally get beaten on price. However we will happily match or beat any like for like quotation so feel free to throw me a challenge.

@adamholt1 I'd be happy to offer you a comparative quotation if you would like to get in touch? :)

Same here, although I wish the computers we buy didn't keep coming with American keyboards. ;)

Hopefully we've put that behind us now! We only buy in laptops with European ISO keyboards now :)
