HP 4700 black everywhere...

Got an issue with one of our HP 4700 printers in that every page is coming out completely black.

 

Tried changing the black toner with a known working one, but still the same results. Tried a factory reset, Full Calibration, cleaning the transfer kit, printing out a few blank sheets, the PQ troubleshooting pages (all black) and no dice, just increasingly blacked hands...

 

The printer is aging (tbh, it's been here longer than I have, so over 10 years) so maybe it's just past it, but any other ideas on how to salvage this trusty work horse would be greatly appreciated.

 

If not, anyone got any suggestions for a replacement?

Check the supplies status via the webpage, does the transfer kit still got any life in it?

Still 90%, remember changing in the not too distant past...

If you go to the web page and print out one of the supplies pages from there does that print ok?

Could it be Corotron issue, if I remember these are quite high voltage cables so you need to be careful.

 

 

 

Black Pages

 

In some printers a black page can be occur when the charger corotron is broken or not properly connected. Examine the charger corotron to see it is broken. If the charger corotron is broken and is part of the print cartridge or photoreceptor unit, replace the print cartridge or photoreceptor unit with a new one. If the charger corotron is not broken, or cannot be seen to check, try removing and reinstalling the print cartridge or photoreceptor unit, as the electrical contacts between the removable unit and the main part of the printer may not be connecting properly

Interestingly, jammed halfway through printing the supplies page, and it looks fine (other than no black at all) as it enters the Fuser, and the covered in Black straight after.

 

Might be worth trying a different fuser. Will be a pain if it is though, don't remember them being cheap, but at least it's an easily changeable part.

Can you see any damage or burning on the fuser roller

Nothing noticeable, just swapped over with a working Fuser, see what happens...
