Should this be able to stream HD video

I've got a Zotac ZBOX nano XS AD11 Plus that would be good for showing video on a large screen accept it can't stream HD videos from the likes of Youtube and iplayer, it's incredibly choppy and un-watchable.

It can play 1080p from the hard drive without a hitch. I've tried Chrome, IE, Opera and Firefox browsers and I have up to 60mb broadband and other pc's/laptops run the same youtube videos fine.

 

Is the E-450/HD6320 combi the reason for the struggle or could it be something else?

It has 4GB of ram and the latest AMD drivers installed

I've contacted Zotac to see what their opinion is but they have failed to answer, which doesn't bode well.

A lot of video sources don't use hardware (or use very limited HW decoding) of the GPU so use the CPU to decode. I'm afraid the E-450 is a weak CPU.

You could use KODI (XBMC) and some unofficial plugins that will allow access to the iplayer and youtube raw video and then use GPU accelerated streaming. But services like youtube only offer 720p in that mode.

 

I'd recommend you put openelec on that box and see what does work for you.

Great minds think alike as they say, I did look Openelec over the weekend as I've been trying to get another one of these Zotacs to do similar stuff elsewhere. May give it a go.

Could you try playing a YouTube video in Chrome after installing the H264ify extension?

 

The Radeon HD 6320 in your ZBox is capable of hardware accelerating H.264 videos.

Thanks Arthur, the reviews for the extension look promising, will give that a go later today.

I've got 2 of these at home and they both struggle with HD. It must be too much for the tiny processor. I once tried to stream (locally) a 2GB video file and it absolutely hated me for it! Hah!
