[Office 365] - Rule to CC user when email sent to distribution group

Hello,

 

We have recently had our safeguarding officer request to be CCd into emails sent to certain 'dynamic' distribution groups. They are dynamic based on attributes in active directory. For example IF 'Company' IS 'Intake 2014' which is used for Year 7's. This is the same for each year group. As they all use the same attribute 'Company' the safeguarding officer could only be added to one year group.

 

I have had a look at creating a global rule under mail flow where the recipient is the year groups cc the safeguarding officer but get an error

SentTo predicate does not allow distribution groups.

 

Does anyone know a way I can attach a single user to multiple dynamic distribution groups?

I've had something similar requested here and also had issues going down the 'rules' route.

In the end I edited the dynamic distribution rules to add a second group in - so in your example you'd add an AD property for the safeguarding user, then edit the dynamic distribution list for each of the lists the safeguarding officer wants access to

(So Year 7 dynamic list would pick up "Intake 2014" AND "Safeguarding")

 

It's a bit fiddly but works

The company attribute for the staff member is used for another distribution group so I have added "Safeguarding" to the Stage/Province attribute. If I edit the rule for the Year 7 to have Company = Intake 2014 then have another rule saying State / Province = Safeguarding will this still work?

I'm torn between saying that will work, or whether that will actually break it. It might interpret that to mean that it will only send mail to people who have both conditions met? (I guess it would be easy to do a quick test!)

What I did was just add multiple rules in:

In this example is for my "All Leadership" list - but we have two different kinds of Leadership Team, and then a very selective list of people who pick up "all lists"

Just done a test with having Company and State/Province which retuned 0 members

 

Looks like I might have to change certain attributes at Half term. Does seem crazy that you cant use a CC rule for distribution groups though.
