[ipad] Unable to Update (Error 14)

Hi

 

anyone able to offer me any advice on an ipad problem please?

 

The ipad has apparently been restarting/crashing quite a lot recently, so went and did what was (stupidly) recommended on the apple website and check for updates, download and install.

 

The ipad appears to have crashed during the upgrade as I came back to it with a solid blue screen. Now when I turn it on I get the recovery mode screen. Plugging the ipad in and trying to upgrade or trying to restore all return with the error code 14 and I don't know how else to go forward with it.

 

Anyone able to offer any advice other then throwing it through the nearest window?

Sorry for the late response. Heres a few things to check.

 

Is iTunes updated to the latest version?

Are you restoring to the latest firmware, versions before iOS 8.3 are no longer being signed.

Is the USB cable you are using a genuine one? I have known restores to fail because of faulty 3rd party lightning and 30 pin cables.

Yes, itunes is updated to the latest version (also tried 2 previous versions just incase)

Yes, iTunes only gives me the option to restore to 8.3 so that#s what I've tried to get it to use.

Yes, it's a genuine cable too, I did have my concerns over one so tried one which I had at home and know is a genuine cable.

 

So still stuck.

Error 14 is definitely something to do with the USB connection. Can you try a different computer/iPad?

Don't have another ipad (won't be recommending we buy any more on this basis), I have taken it home and tried to do it on my pc and still comes up with the same error code.

If it is under warranty, book a visit to the Apple Store. They're usually quite good a replacing faulty devices. They don't do much trouble shooting other than what we try ourselves as techies.

18 months old so out of warranty too which is a pain!
