First time to use Solus 3. In the screenshot attached, what do i have to deploy? Obviously SIMS Spring 2015, but what about the rest? SIMS Database 2015? and what about those 4 patches? Do i just deploy the last patch or all 4 patches?

Also should i deploy out of hours like i have for the last 12 years with Solus 2? or can i hit deploy at any time with Solus 3?

SOLUS3 will automatically deploy the SIMS database update along side the client update. If you highlight the client update and click view it will show you the details of what will be deployed, and to which targets. Therefore just deploy the SIMS 2015 Spring file to get up to date. This also works the same way for patches. I would just deploy the latest one and if it requires any of the other 3 it will do so automatically. Unfortunately with most things SOLUS3 related, you only work these things out through live deployments.

I find deploying updates with Solus 3 works quite well if you schedule the updates for early in the morning, say 7am. This way, the server completes the update first, and then clients are updated as they come online when everyone gets in and switches them all on.

Take a look at the dependencies and deploy the last in the chain. S3 will sort it all out for you.

The way it works here is I tell staff there's going to be an upgrade and to close SIMS after PM reg. They dutifully follow instructions and I deploy the update.

Then I have the afternoon to mop up any issues. To be honest these days there are not many issues after an upgrade.

I think my heart would be in my mouth until I got into work if I scheduled updates..prefer to watch it fail in front of my eyes

I would have to agree with this. I like to set the updates going after 4pm, and then watch every single update process happen in front of me.

A bad experience with the upgrade once means I always sit and watch the SIMS upgrades go through.

Solus 3 and Discover I'm not too worried about and will schedule them for the morning.

I schedule them for early on a Saturday morning so when I get up the bulk of the deployment, if not all, has been achieved. This last occasion, all five SIMS databases and associated workstations were very successful.

I believe this was down to removing obsolete or problematic workstations from the Solus3 interface until those particular machine issues have been resolved.
