Top Domains High usage

Hi,

 

I have recently noticed that within smoothwall's top domains (24 hours) section we have clienttemplates.content.office.net showing at 1.5gbytes.

 

I am quite concerned that it is running so high so as an experiment I added that URL to the blocked list, the problem is it doesn't appear to have reduced the amount of usage at all.

 

Does anyone know what clienttemplates.content.office.net is used for? and if there is anyway of reducing the amount of bandwidth it is taking up?

I believe Word, Excel et al. download templates and other resources from there.

Run the domain through the policy checker (clienttemplates.content.office.net) to make sure you don't have conflicting policies.

Are you transfer capped? i.e. is your connection restricted to X Gb/month?

If not, 1.5G in 24 hours isn't much. Translates to an average of about 20k/sec over the whole day.

Unless it's causing you performance issues or chewing up your limit, don't worry about it.

Sorry to drag up an old post, we have a similar issue but with Domain Hits. We have XIBO set up for digital signage and running two screens produces approximately 250,000 hits per 24 hours. Is there anyway we can exclude this result from the list and/or logs.

 

We have tried putting the machines affected under different proxy settings (port 801) but it still appears on the dashboard.

im assuming the xibo clients are using a proxy address? If so you need to find a way of configuring the xibo clients to not use the proxy.

 

We add all our internal servers to the auto proxy cfg script as exceptions. In assuming you can add bypasses in each xibo box?

The XIBO clients are windows applications that sit on Windows 7 installations. Internet options have been altered to use 801 on those machines but no joy. In XIBO, there is a part where you can put proxy information however this is only username , password and domain.

 

We run the installation using Apache via XAMPP, wondering if proxy information needs to be with that too.
