elsiegee40 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) My Mum's Meat envelope... a yummy way to use leftover roast Ingredients: Remainders of roast joint - minced or finely chopped 1 onion chopped Leftover gravy (Optional leftover veggies chopped or minced) 1 tbsp Worcester Sauce (more if you wish) 1 pack puff pastry Salt and pepper Soften the chopped onion, stir in the meat, worcester sauce. Season and then add a little gravy to make a soft, but not wet, mix. (Optionally add chopped/minced leftover cooked veggies too, but don't make too much mixture!) Preheat oven to 200C, 190 fan, Gas 6 Roll out the pastry into a square. Put the square of pastry on a baking sheet before assembling the envelope! Put the meat mix in the middle. Fold in the corners of the pastry like an envelope, using a little water, milk or egg as glue to seal the edges. Make a couple of holes in the top with a knife and brush with egg or milk to glaze. Bung in oven for 20-30 minutes until pastry is cooked and golden. Serve with any leftover gravy.... you might need to make more gravy Edited May 13, 2015 by elsiegee40 1
Gatt Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 @Sagima, I stand corrected.. My wife has just told me that if you leave it in the Slow Cooker on high for a while (she didn't say how long unfortunately) then the skin will crispen!

It's impossible when people ask me for timings and temperatures... I just do it; I don't think about it. Mrs Gatt is probably the same

Achandler Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Slow cooking curries is one of the best things to do, use cheaper meat then. Biggest problem I find with the slow cooker (a problem Christmas day use to give me at home), is when you can smell the food when you were wake up or just get home from work, you are immediately hungry but it invariably not time to eat is yet! 2

We do curries and chilli in it too - best way to stop the meat going tough and chewy! Yep - biggest problem of all - hunger!
