Best activity for a task in Moodle?

So, one of the things staff use our old VLE for is to create a page where everyone in a class can submit a file (their work for the lesson) and the rest of the class can then access that work and comment on it (but not marking it - no numbers, scores etc...).

 

Which activity type in Moodle is best suited for that sort of thing?

Seems to want numerical scores for the reviews and creates some strange multi-stage marking system which we don't want. Just files and comments.

How about the 'Forum' activity? With that you can also control things like attachment size and number of attachments.

 

You can do clever things like conditional access too so for instance they could need to complete a previous task/activity before accessing the forum.

Yeah, that's what I ended up going with in the end.

I'd use a forum too but I would use the "each person posts one discussion" type of forum. That means that -er - every student can start one new discussion thread (and only one)where they attach their work with any comments about it, and others in the class can only reply with their own comments. If you tell them to start their discussion with their own name you will get an easy to view class list of (say 30)students' names with discussion threads only on their work.

We used to do it this way too. Now staff pretty much all use Google Classroom for assignments and all homework (where appropriate).

It was nice to have everything in one place, but they seem to prefer the email/document integration with Classroom.

We don't and won't use Google Apps. We're just not happy with their compliance with EU and UK Data Protection rules.
