Sibrows Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Hi All I'm looking for a solution to get data thats already been backed up duplicated to tape. This is the current situation: I've got Veeam backing up our VM cluster. Our frog server backs up to the backup server. Our Mac server backs up to the backup server. So I'm looking for a way to archive this data to tape. I'm aware that Veeam has a duplicate to tape option but we don't appear to have a license for it and the license for Backup Exec which I was hoping to use but that doesn't support Win 2012 Can anyone make any recommendations to low cost options? Thanks in advance.
Davit2005 Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Has the backup server got both Veeam and Backup Exec. Have you got the ability to setup a scheduled file copy to tape job??
Sibrows Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Has the backup server got both Veeam and Backup Exec. No - the version of Backup Exec not compatible Have you got the ability to setup a scheduled file copy to tape job?? Is that possible without a third-party piece of software?
howartp Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I'm aware that Veeam has a duplicate to tape option but we don't appear to have a license for it I can't recall anything about Tape functionality being added cost - you've either got Veeam B&R or you haven't, assuming you're up to date on your licensing?

Its a feature of the Enterprise editions (see Veeam version comparison) I'm concerned that it still wouldn't cover my other requirements that aren't backups taken using Veeam.
Davit2005 Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 (edited) Tape Backup is even in the free editions, free edition is missing some of the bells and whistles but to my knowledge tape function is still there If you have both Backup Exec and Veeam on same server I found this to hide the tape function of earlier versions of Veeam, I found this when I installed Veeam version 7 on same server. You can stop all the Backup Exec services temp to see if it pops up. Can you do a file copy job to tape instead, you can add file masks if you just need to backup the full backup files. We have configured our monthly's like this. Sorry cannot compare as I do not have same edition here. The limited on the link provided does say it does not provide full intergration with backup jobs, maybe this means that the Secondary target for backups is not present. All editions support copying Windows, Linux and VM backup files to tape. Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions add tight integration with backup jobs and support full tracking of VMs and restore points on tape as well as in media vaults. Edited May 6, 2015 by Davit2005
