Unable to upload WDS image

I'm trying to capture an image from a laptop (wired connection) to our WDS server. The image seems to capture okay, but as soon as it gets to the uploading to the server part I get "Uploading image to WDS server. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format"

 

The event log doesn't offer any clues, there's 30gb of free space and plenty of RAM free - 1.5GB!

 

edit - I've tried manually copying the image from the laptop to the reminst share and importing into WDS from there, I get "The file does not contain a valid boot image"
