SQL Trouble Connecting to Instance

I'm trying to set up a test Operations Manager server and I'm struggling to connect to the local SQL instance using a domain admin account. The domain admins group was given permissions during the SQL install. I also can't connect through SSMS on the server using Windows authentication.

 

The thing that has thrown me is that I can connect through SSMS from a workstation using the same domain credentials, it works perfectly. I can also connect to the instance with SA but I can't specify that in the OpsMan installation.

 

How is it that I connect remotely but not locally?

Either this is a really obscure problem and no one can help or it's really simple and no one will dignify it with a response.

It was the latter.

 

I needed to install the full text search compnent for SQL. I would never have know that if it wasn't for the tooltip that told me when I hovered over the box I was trying to type the server instance into.
