I knew ipads wouldn't take off but this is quite literally.

"Some American Airlines flights experienced an issue with a software application on pilot iPads yesterday evening," a spokesman told the BBC.

"In some cases, the flight had to return to the gate to access a wi-fi connection to fix the issue.

Sounds like someone forgot to pay their bill and/or ran out of data allowance.

Interesting - maybe they could have just fly low over every McDonalds along the route to pick up a free wifi signal??

Compared to taken a massive ring binder on fight plans having them on to one small device is a good idea. Maybe a surface pro would of been better.

Remember the old jokes "If Microsoft made a car, you would have to turn it off and turn it on again".

I guess for Apple products it's a question of "Find a Wi-Fi Connection and hope for the best"

According to the comments thread on the El Reg version of the story, Delta use the same application on Surface tablets.

United Airlines was also an early adopter of iPads, while Delta has opted for Microsoft's Surface tablets instead.
