"In some cases, the flight had to return to the gate to access a wi-fi connection to fix the issue. Sounds like someone forgot to pay their bill and/or ran out of data allowance.

According to the comments thread on the El Reg version of the story, Delta use the same application on Surface tablets.

So does the BBC article posted in the OP United Airlines was also an early adopter of iPads, while Delta has opted for Microsoft's Surface tablets instead.
