SHimmer45 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 going to be deploying the Spring 2015 release via solus soon and was looking for documentation on the process of installing and pushing out the upgrade, do capita publish a document on this? i have started to read through the administrators guide for SOLUS 3 is this going to cover it?
Cache Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Yes there is guidance on supportnet/my account and it's normally sent out by the Customer Service managers as well when the upgrade is released so you could speak to whoever recieves these in your school. They are also attached to the note that's posted on Capita Education Support Services
SHimmer45 Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 havent done it yet a job for next week..
Griff Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Did my spring upgrade on Thursday night. Took about 4 hours in total (I have to update vDisks etc). All seemed OK came in Friday few machines not playing ball not really seen this message before but a lot of machines saying update process already running or something similar like that when I forced it to check for update on SOLUS3. Redeployed a few workstations not too bad.
SHimmer45 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Posted May 19, 2015 Im doing it this evening, reading the documentation it says you just need to click on deploy on your chosen upgrade. so would just clicking on 2015 spring install all of the required updates shown or do i need to click deploy on spring and then the database upgrades?
ianriley1986 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 You just need to highlight "SIMS 2015 Spring" and then click on deploy, as you have already downloaded the other updates needed for this to run, it will deploy fine.
SHimmer45 Posted May 19, 2015 Author Posted May 19, 2015 that was what i was checking so it will "chain" the other bits as it needs. as i havent deployed the database upgrades or anything yet
ianriley1986 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Yeah that's correct. Once you deploy the SIMS 2015 Spring update, you will see that it will upgrade the databases first. If this ever fails then you would need to check that you have downloaded the database updates within SOLUS 3, but looking at your screenshot, it is already there so you should have no problems! 1
SHimmer45 Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 completed the upgrade last night relatively painless Discover didnt upgrade and came up with an odd error message "Tolerance not met for target Discover Windows Services" so going to be speaking to capita re this. oddly i might have tried to install a compact version of SQL which isnt required on the host?
ianriley1986 Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Is this the first time you have tried upgrading Discover? Have you defined all definitions to do with Discover within Solus3 and then deployed it?. I would check you can still log into Discover on the server and can still run the data transfer using the admin utility.. Part of the Discover upgrade includes compact SQL so dont worry about that part....
SHimmer45 Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 Discover isnt something that we really use anymore was used to set up some dynamic grouping. raised a query with Capita as the definitions in the settings are set so i was a little confused.
