JRowley Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 cant see the vid here is that the one where he was showing off and accidentally ordered an xbox one from amazon rather than adding it to a wishlist? No, it's just a news article: Man's first day of wearing Apple Watch to work not going as hoped SALES manager Tom Logan’s new Apple Watch has been unexpectedly ridiculed by his work colleagues. 32-year-old Logan felt confident that his futuristic timepiece would attract admiring glances rather than unflattering Knight Rider comparisons. He said: “I had it all planned out – not saying anything about it, but then somebody just notices and goes ‘is that the new Apple Watch?’. I would respond simply with a wry Clooney-esque smile and they would mouth the word ‘awesome’. “What actually happened is somebody said ‘what the fuck’s that weird-looking thing?’ “I explained that it was the brand new Apple Watch and they went ‘HAHAHA’ in a really deliberately hurtful way. The accounts assistant said it was the opposite of a fanny magnet and everyone cracked up. “Then everyone started pretending to talk into their watches, saying things like ‘come in KITT, I am a massive tosser, please help’.” By 10am Logan had removed the watch. He explained: “It wasn’t because people were being sarcastic, I just had a hot wrist, everyone gets a hot wrist sometimes. “People get jealous of early adopters.” 2
Joanne Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Proper actually made me laugh out loud did that one too.... the HAHAHA in a really deliberately hurtful way bit got me. 1
Garacesh Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Everyone?! I can safely say I've never had a 'hot wrist'. Should I consult a medical professional?
ZeroHour Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 With a traditional watch, those tiny little gears moving take up next-to-no power. Tick. Tick. Tick. A watch battery will last for about 12 months. Much longer if it's got one of those little dynamos inside. Smart watches, though, have to compute stuff, power a wireless radio, light up a screen, and a bunch of other stuff that all drains way more power. You've got a size-vs-battery-life scenario going on and to make the battery bigger is going to make the watch much more cumbersome and less appealing. Just to say a lot of watches now have 10/25 year batteries when you are paying Apple Watch prices, my Seiko does. I am half tempted by the Apple Watch but I just dont know how much I could live with the on/off charging and if I would use it for anything more then a step counter (temped by a fitbit).

Yup my watch guarantees you never have to change the battery for a lifetime. Have a look at the Razer SmartWatch mentioned a little back from here, it looks very good.

I quite like the Huawei watch but all of them are Google Gear based and until Google gets their finger out Apple have the market locked up for those on iPhones.

I can't see what Google can do about that though, Apple actively block apps mentioning competitors products, recently resulting in updates to apps for Pebble being blocked (which they have since claimed was merely a mistake) I think we're lucky Apple are still allowing Pebble apps to get published, I seriously doubt they'll ever allow Android Gear apps to be published on iOS

I do like the Cyanogen mod protections so all apps dont get GPS/Contacts access etc but thats in iPhone from the start and every app has to handle the fact you may say no.

I do like the Cyanogen mod protections so all apps dont get GPS/Contacts access etc but thats in iPhone from the start and every app has to handle the fact you may say no. Unfortunately, I'm losing my love for Android now. Google seem to be killing it with updates; their core apps get slower and slower every time they update them, leaving you to rely on third party apps for core functionality and all the flakiness that goes with that. I'm sure the apps look great on brand new hardware, but anything >12 months old is being killed off. They're essentially trapping you in to regular upgrades and associated costs, which is carp. I will never buy an Apple device on principal, but can see why they're so popular. Which leaves Windows Phone, with an almost complete lack of support from anyone. I'm really hoping Windows 10 gives Windows Phone the boost it so badly needs!

It just gets faster and better with each update. I can go almost 2 days between charges now (used to be 1 day).
abillybob Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 My mum's Nexus 5 is almost 2 years old. Runs just as good now as it did out of the box and she's your basic user that doesn't 'maintain' her phone. I've had one bad experience with android but that was only the OPO and that then was because I had a dodgy device, I'm a power user and generally run a lot of apps all at once, have desktop connections going with internet and regularly flash and install mods/tweaks. I've never had a problem and think as long as you know what you're doing/installing you'll generally have a good experience with android devices.
Joanne Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I really want this now... Sony SmartWatch 3 - Green Smartwatches from £189.99 | The Carphone Warehouse SAVING UP TIMEZ!! *must... not... credit... card.... urgh*

Google's flagship models do seem to last longer, but I've had Samsung and HTC devices that have been absolute dogs after 12 months My mum's Nexus 5 is almost 2 years old. If you "regularly flash mods" then you regularly clean the device up - stands to reason it'll keep running great if you keep wiping it, but you shouldn't need to. It's nothing to do with "knowing what you're doing" and everything to do with Android being too open to crap developers writing apps that eat too much memory - Amazon's apps are a killer for instance. LosOjos Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) Hence this; Like I said, flagship model, generally run better for longer. I've had multiple Samsung and HTC devices, brother has had a number of HTCs, fianceé has had a few different Sonys, all of them slow down after 12 months. Wiping them makes them run better for a while, but the system apps take up so much memory (more after every update) that eventually, they're barely usable again. It's all anecdotal, but I honestly don't know anyone who isn't frustrated with an Android phone they've owned more than year. I dare say there are plenty of people who feel the same way about iPhones (widely reported how they get slower after a couple of OS updates) but as neither myself nor any of my family use them, I have no experience of that. Not sure why I'm arguing with you - you won't convince me my personal experiences didn't happen EDIT: that came off as more aggressive than I intended, what I meant was that I have no hard "proof", only personal perception, so no amount of evidence is going to convince me otherwise; my experience with Android has, overall, sucked. ZeroHour Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 My other half had a Note 2, it was unusable after a year. The battery wouldnt even last half a day. A clean wipe did help but thats much more involved then most. I tried to clean it up without wiping it but it was buggy all the time.
abillybob Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 @Joanne Amazon France has the Sony smart watch 3 for £115 just in case your interested! 1
edutech4schools Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I had a nexus one, HTC desire HD, Samsung galaxy 2, nexus 5. Wife has Samsung galaxy 5. Samsung are very poor at lasting more than a year, HTC only a bit better. Nexus phones have been amazing. 1
LeMarchand Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I just had a hot wrist, everyone gets a hot wrist sometimes. C'mon lads, you know what he means . Wouldn't have thought a watch is the ideal screen for that sort of thing, though. 2
Joanne Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 @Joanne Amazon France has the Sony smart watch 3 for £115 just in case your interested! Thanks for that btw... bought it from there. Saved me £35
andyturpie Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Whilst I still have two arms with hands attached, I will continue reaching into my inside pocket for my phone. I don't find this an inconvenience. So in an essence, no I will never purchase this or anything similar.
Joanne Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 My main advantage with the watch is the fact I can save and play music from it and bluetooth to my headphones... means I don't have to take my phone into the gym and I can do map my ride with the watch too... so I don't have to take my phone cycling! I'm hoping it's going to pacify my urge for a new phone for a while too... give me a few more months of shiny shiny!
