RDP through SWGfL Proxy

Situation I've been informally called in to help: Two schools that are becoming closer and will probably merge over time, both run RDP services for staff for remote working. However both schools are behind SWGfL's proxy and so port 3389 obviously won't work.

 

What alternatives if any can I implement so that staff in site A can rdp back to Site B if they are visiting? The schools are using Thinstuff TS rather than windows 2012 for the remote servers so can't really build in a gateway server over port 80/443

 

Wish I'd never picked up the phone on this one...

You could ask the SWGfL to open port 3389 from the other sites IP address range and vice versa.

Yeah, SWGfL will open the ports between the sites if you ask them to. If you want the services to be available on the public internet they will also sort out public IP addresses for you too.

Thanks for that. The two RDP servers are already publicly available but I'll raise a job with SWGfL for them and get the ports opened up between the two sites.

 

Sometimes the simplest route is the one you don't think of...

You could set up an RD Gateway on each site. It accepts external connections over https:// 443 and routes them on 3389 to the internal server you want to control. Other advantages are that you can set up rules that govern who can connect to what and when.
